HAPI Steel Tongue Drums HAPI Drums
The unique tone is created by a tuned vibrating tongue of steel. The concept is similar to a wooden tongue drum. When a tongue is quickly and lightly struck with the finger or mallet it vibrates creating sound waves. The arrangement of the notes makes it easy to explore new musical horizons. You don't need a musical background to enjoy a HAPI Drum. Anyone who wants an easy to play intuitive instrument can play one. The strong meditative tones are calming and great for relaxing anytime.

The HAPI Drums are available in the E or D scale with 8 notes. We use a pentatonic scale (5 notes per octave) or hexatonic scale (6 notes per octave). You can play any note combination and still produce a beautiful sound without a musical background. HAPI Drums come in Major, Minor, Integral, Akebono and Pygmy scales. The Major scale produces a happy carefree sound. The Minor scale produces a soulful introspective sound. This scale is ideally suited for playing with Native American Flute or other ancient instruments configured in the Minor Scale. The HAPI Integral Scale is a combination of all the notes in the popular Akebono and Pygmy Scales.

The HAPI drum weighs 12 lbs. and the dimensions are 12" across by 8" high. Each drum comes with a pair of yarn mallets that are specifically handmade for this drum. We also include a handbook that outlines playing techniques. The handbook has mallet and hand playing techniques, ideal chords, as well as practice exercises.
